A Water Mill tarot card reader told Southampton Town Police she was harassed after a woman associated with a “rival tarot card reader” threatened her at the business she runs out of her Montauk Highway home.
The victim told Southampton Town Police that at 10:15 a.m. on July 20, a woman with dark brown hair and a gold tooth came to her door asking for a tarot card reading. Once inside the woman stated, “You don’t take warnings very well,” and, “If you don’t take down your signs and shut it down, I will cut out your tongue so you can’t do readings anymore.” The woman then left the residence, according to a police report of the incident.
The victim told police that this confrontation was the result of an ongoing dispute she has been having with another tarot card reader that she doesn’t know but often sees at carnivals and festivals around the area. She also told police that she got into a verbal confrontation with her rival the weekend prior in Amagansett.
Woman Attacked At Stop Light
A Riverside woman was arrested last week and charged with third-degree assault after cutting her victim in the face with an unknown sharp object on the night of July 18, authorities said.
Southampton Town Police said Telisha Houpe, 30, reached into a vehicle that was stopped in traffic on Albany Avenue in Flanders and cut a woman in the face several times, causing lacerations, police said.
The victim, a 27-year-old woman from Riverhead, was sitting in the front passenger seat of the vehicle at the time of the attack, police said. They arrested Ms. Houpe at police headquarters last Thursday, July 22, after issuing a warrant.
Police said they did know the motive behind the attack.
Ms. Houpe was charged with third-degree assault, a misdemeanor, according to authorities. She was issued an appearance ticket and will be arraigned in Southampton Town Justice Court on Wednesday, August 11, court officials said.
Police: Sex Offender Failed To Register
A convicted rapist was arrested by Southampton Town Police last week after failing to tell authorities where he was living.
Police said Charles McClinton, 36, who was born in Birmingham, Alabama, was already in Suffolk County Jail in Riverside for a different crime when police charged him last Thursday, July 22, with failing to report his address while he was free in early June. Police said they did not know why Mr. McClinton was already incarcerated.
Mr. McClinton, who is homeless, was supposed to be living in a trailer operated by Suffolk County and located just outside the jail property in Riverside and designated for homeless sex offenders. But Southampton Town Police, who check the trailers periodically, said that Mr. McClinton had not been living there. He also failed to report his address to authorities, which he is required to do every 90 days, police said. Authorities said they did not know where he had been living.
Police said they issued a warrant for his arrest on June 3.
Mr. McClinton was charged with failing to report a change of address and failing to verify his address, both felonies, police said. He was scheduled to be arraigned in Southampton Town Justice Court on Tuesday, according to court officials.
Mr. McClinton was convicted of second-degree rape, a felony, in 2004, according to New York State’s Public Registry of Sex Offenders. Records show that he was arrested in Riverhead for the crime, and the victim was a 13-year-old girl.
